GFNY World Championship NYC
19 May 2024
Discover amazing food, drinks and shops while exploring the urban side of Puerto Rico, where history and culture intersect with bustling city life.
The metropolitan area refers to seven towns that make up the urban “downtown” of Puerto Rico, including the capital, San Juan, a city with over 500 years of history, and Carolina.
What was once the crown jewel of the Spanish Empire is now the Island's historic and cultural center, as well as the most popular launching point for Puerto Rico vacations. Founded in 1521, San Juan is the oldest European-founded city in the Americas but is home to much more than just history.
Only 15 minutes from SJU airport, San Juan blends elements of the Old World (cobblestone streets and colonial architecture) with all the amenities of modern urban life (craft cocktails, contemporary dining, amazing shopping, and vibrant nightlife). Immerse yourself in the culture and explore the wealth of art, food, adventure, and beauty that is waiting to be discovered.
GFNY Puerto Rico will have one of the most amazing routes for its panoramic views, between plains and climbs passing through the towns of Carolina, Canovanas, Juncos, San Lorenzo and Caguas.
Your departure at 7 am will be made from the Municipality of San Juan leaving from the Mall Of San Juan. This road will take you to the Municipality of Carolina towards road PR-874 where you can appreciate a historic area with ruins of the Old Sugar Cane Mill of Canovanas. Then, the route will enter the urban area of Canovanas where the surface of the land changes from coastal plain, to the mountainous rural area.
Its passage through the PR-185 road will take you from Canovanas to Juncos through an adrenaline-filled stretch for 13km (8.5 miles) undulating, where at the end of the PR-185 you will enjoy a descent of 5km (3 miles).
Already deep in the 45km (28 miles) distance, the route gets fun when facing an ascent 100m (350 feet) with 3km (1.9 miles) of distance with a 4.4% incline accompanied by a spectacular panoramic view and passing by a coffee hacienda, Hacienda Muñoz in the direction of San Lorenzo.
Once the first test is over, the fun continues by entering the town of San Lorenzo via the PR-916 road facing an ascent of 5km (3.1miles) away, 160m (530 feet) with a 2.7% incline, this road will take you to the PR-9912 road where you can appreciate the beauty of the Rio Grande de Loiza.
At the end of the PR-9912 road turning right towards the PR-181 road you will find a 7.5km undulating distance where you will border the Rio Grande Loíza and where you will connect turning left with the PR-183 road where you will find an entertaining challenge in a rural area and that will take you to the Town of Caguas.
Subsequently, cyclists will find fun challenges in an urban area of Caguas, passing through Luis Muñoz Marín Avenue and passing through the rural area of Gurabo, Juncos and Canóvanas returning on the PR-185 road where there is a cumulative elevation of 330M (1000ft).
Without a doubt this spectacular route will impress you with its beautiful views and the cyclist will enjoy different areas with rural areas with different levels of elevation and slopes, passing through rural areas, wetlands and urban centers.
Once the race is completed, a complete show awaits you at the finish line with bands, DJ, VIP area, pasta party and all the well-known festivities that GFNY always offers.
