Gran Premio New York City

GFNY World Championship NYC
18 May 2025
GFNY Puerto Rico starts and finishes at the world-class exhibition center in the heart of Ponce, Complejo Ferial de Puerto Rico. Race week activities like the pre-race expo and post-race meal and awards also occur at the Complejo Ferial.
From the Complejo Ferial, you will ride to Ponce Bypass. This main avenue travels through the heart of Ponce past several important city sites like Plaza Del Caribe, Damas Hospital, and Ponce Health Sciences University. As you approach the end of Ponce Bypass, you'll ride past the historic Auditorio Juan Pachín Vicéns, known as Ponce's sports venue, and Ponce Cement plant, known as CEMEX Ponce. This point marks the start of the main climb of the race, a Hors Catégorie climb of 21km with 889m of climbing and 3.5% average and 25% maximum incline. The climb travels into the Cordillera Central, the main mountain chain of Puerto Rico that divides the island.
The climb travels on the road 123, the old highway between Ponce and Adjuntas. The road and your race course follow the Río Cañas Valley, the Río Saltillo Valley, the Río Cidra Valley, and the Río Vivi Valley. You will enjoy lovely, tropical, and scenic country roads. Be ready for many sections with gradual climbs and descents and some with steeper climbs and descents.
When you get to Adjuntas, you will pass through the main plaza. When passing Adjunta's main plaza, cyclists will see an intersection where it is signed saying Long and Medium Route. From there, the medium course makes a right turn at the intersection back to Ponce on road PR-10.
On the long route, cyclists will go on the left side of the intersection, continuing on the PR-123 road until the intersection Utuado on PR-10 to Lake Dos Bocas in Utuado. Utuado is a historic town with colonial architecture and a rich coffee trade history, and it serves as the turn-around for the long course. On the way back, enjoy another aid station stop back at Adjuntas before climbing back over the 802m-tall (2630ft) crest near Portugués before descending back to Ponce. The course will offer four aid stations for the long and medium routes.
Both courses offer incredible views, unforgettable experiences, and a tough but rewarding challenge. Back at the Complejo Ferial, the post-race party awaits you: finisher medals, live music, performers, an awards ceremony, a delicious Puerto Rican post-race meal, and drinks.
LONG COURSE IS A COMPETITION: Only the finishers of the long course are eligible for category rankings and Overall and Podium awards. If you want to race and be ranked in your category, you must complete the long course. Top 10% of finishers in each age group earn a spot in the Qualifier Corral at every GFNY World event.
MEDIUM COURSE IS NOT A COMPETITION: The riders of the medium course will be provided their start-to-finish time, but will not be ranked by finish time. All finish times will be listed in alphabetical order.
THE JERSEY: All riders receive the official GFNY Puerto Rico race jersey, which is mandatory attire at the race. The jersey is designed in NYC and Made in Italy.
CHIP TIMING: GFNY Puerto Rico is a timed race. Each athlete has their own timing chip, which starts right after you cross the start line and stops when you cross the finish line. Timing results will be available at gfny.cc/results.
FINISHER MEDAL: Every GFNY Puerto Rico finisher receives a medal, no matter which distance they complete. All finishers also earn a “Finish” towards their 3x2024 GFNY medal or the 10x medal. Go to gfny.com/medals for more information on GFNY’s multi-finisher medals.
