Ponce, Puerto Rico

GFNY Puerto Rico is held in the city of Ponce. Known as the "Pearl of the South," Ponce is located on Puerto Rico's south coast and is distinguished by its historical and cultural attractions. It's the second-largest city on the Island and has over 500 years of history.

Ponce is famous for its beautiful neoclassical buildings and colonial architecture, especially in the Ponce Historic Zone, which includes the Ponce Cathedral and its iconic Parque de Bombas. This old fire station has been turned into a museum. The city is also known for its cultural scene, which hosts several museums, including the Ponce Museum of Art. This museum is famous for its extensive European and Puerto Rican art collections, and houses the largest art collection in the Caribbean.
The city is surrounded by natural beauty, including the nearby Caja de Muertos island, a nature reserve known for its beaches and hiking trails, and the northern mountains, which offer scenic views and outdoor activities.

Discover amazing food, drinks and shops while exploring the urban side of Puerto Rico, where history and culture intersect with city life and nature. Only 1 hour away from San Juan, Ponce blends elements of the Old World, like cobblestone streets and colonial architecture, with all the amenities of modern urban life, like craft cocktails, contemporary dining, shopping, and nightlife. Immerse yourself in the culture and explore the wealth of art, food, adventure, nature and beauty that is waiting to be discovered.

Course

GFNY Puerto Rico is bringing you an exciting route that celebrates the best of the south of the island, combining sea, countryside, history and charm. The adventure begins and ends at the iconic Hotel Ponce Hilton, a perfect meeting point facing the Caribbean Sea.

From the start, you will head towards Santiago de los Caballeros Avenue, quickly connecting with the Ponce Bypass (PR-2 East), a wide and fast road that crosses the heart of the city. Here, you will pass by one of GFNY Puerto Rico's main sponsors, Flagship Mazda/Volkswagen, just before joining the PR-1, where the real journey to the southeast of Puerto Rico begins.

Once on the PR-1, the peloton will roll in front of the Merceditas de Ponce International Airport, a symbol of the city's connection with the world. Later, the landscape transforms with the imposing windmills of Santa Isabel, a reflection of the region's commitment to renewable energies.

The course splits in Santa Isabel, with medium route riders turn left for a u-turn to return back along PR-1 to the Hilton Ponce Hotel, while the long route riders continue straight to continue their challenge.

On the long route, you will enjoy open views and the charm of Salinas Beach, with its salty breeze and Caribbean atmosphere. The route then enters the Barrio La Plena connecting with the communities of Cimarrona and Villodas de Guayama, surrounded by gentle hills and rural roads full of history. At km 40, you will start a 15km-long gradual climb from sea level, reaching to the highest peak of the course (cima coppi) at 174 masl. The climb averages 1% and has a maximum 4.8% in the lower portion, with the last 4km having a maximum incline of 7.5%. After, you will get some rest on the descent for 7.5km as you ride back to the coast.

From there, you will head to the majestic Legado Golf Resort, an oasis and one of the most picturesque moments of the route. The return is made by the PR-3, bordering the coast again until linking back with the PR-1, completing the loop and then heading to the Ponce Hilton.

Along the way, you will find multiple hydration and support stations, with technical and medical assistance to ensure a safe and memorable experience.

The course presents a living postcard of the beauty, history and hospitality of southern Puerto Rico. This route promises emotions, unforgettable views and a deep connection with the Puerto Rican essence.

LONG COURSE IS A COMPETITION: Only finishers of the long course are eligible for category rankings and Overall and Podium awards. If you want to race and be ranked in your category, you must complete the long course.

Top finishers in each age group earn a spot in the Qualifier Corral at every GFNY: top 20% at Continental Championships, top 15% at National Championships, and top 10% at all other GFNYs.

MEDIUM COURSE IS NOT A COMPETITION: The riders of the medium course will be provided their start-to-finish time, but will not be ranked by finish time. All finish times will be listed in alphabetical order.

Perks included as part of GFNY Puerto Rico

THE JERSEY: All riders receive the official GFNY Puerto Rico race jersey, it is mandatory race attire.

CHIP TIMING: GFNY Puerto Rico is a timed race. Each athlete has their own timing chip, which starts right after you cross the start line and stops when you cross the finish line. Timing results will be available at gfny.cc/results.

FINISHER MEDAL: Every GFNY Puerto Rico finisher receives a medal, no matter which distance they complete. All finishers also earn a “Finish” towards their 3x2025 GFNY medal or the 10x medal. Go to gfny.com/medals for more information on GFNY’s multi-finisher medals.
